Zambo judge shot dead
PAGADIAN CITY – A judge was killed on Thursday afternoon in the southern Filipino province of Zamboanga del Norte, the Supreme Court said.
It said Judge Reymar L. Lacaya was shot in the coastal town of Liloy. Lacaya was the assigned at Regional Trial Court Branch (RTC) 11 in Sindangan town, about 57 kilometers from where he was shot.
Police confirmed the killing and said Lacaya was shot at a parking lot outisde the courthouse around 3 p.m. "An initial investigation disclosed that the victim was shot by an unidentified suspect at the RTC parking area in Liloy. Personnel of the Liloy municipal police station responded in the incident and conducted hot pursuit operation," Major Helen Galvez, a regional police spokesperson, told The Zamboanga Post, quoting a sketchy report.
No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the murder.
In a tweet, the Supreme Court Public Information Office said: “Chief Justice Bersamin and the entire Judiciary condemn in the strongest possible terms the killing of Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte RTC Branch 11 Judge Reymar L. Lacaya; urge authorities to exert their best efforts for the immediate apprehension of those responsible for Judge Lacaya’s death.”

2 Zambo village chieftains murdered
PAGADIAN CITY – Unidentified gunmen killed two village chieftains in separate attacks Saturday in Zamboanga Peninsula, police said.
Police said Ibrahim Ingad, of New Labangan village in Pagadian City in Zamboanga del Sur province was shot dead at around 6.45 p.m. Ingad just stepped out of his house when 2 men, armed with shotguns, opened fire and killing him instantly.
The assailants escaped on a motorcycle after the shooting. “Ibrahim Ungad was gunned down by two unidentified armed men in front of his residence,” said Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Luis Licop, the regional police commander.
He said in Zamboanga del Norte’s Sindangan town, the chieftain of La Roche village, Edgardo Viñas, was also shot dead just after presiding over a session inside his office. The attacker just walked right through the session hall and without warning shot Viñas, who was also the president of the Association of Barangay Councils.
The gunman, wearing a crash helmet, fled on a motorcycle after the killing which occurred around noontime, said Licup. “After he adjourned the session, an unidentified person surfaced and shot the victim with the use of long firearm. The suspect fled on a black motorcycle,” he added.
Licup said both killings were being investigated and that he ordered policemen to track down the murderers and at the same time to tighten security in the provinces. Both attacks occurred a week before the midterm elections. (The Zamboanga Post)
