Bloody Monday for Zamboanga City!

ZAMBOANGA CITY – It was a bloody Monday morning in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines following two shooting incidents that killed a seaman and a policewoman.

The first shooting killed Almondo Rosalejos who was working for Aleson Shipping Lines. He just arrived here from Malaysia and was heading home on a motorcycle when shot at close range - in front of Citymall in Tetuan village - by one of two motorcycle gunmen tailing him.

Rosalejos was killed on the spot. The motive of the murder is still unknown.

Barely 2 hours later, a motorcycle gunman also shot PO2 Lydia Jada Halid in San Roque village. She was with two other women going to work on a motorcycle when attacked. Her companions were unhurt from the shooting, but suffered bruises after falling from the motorcycle.

One policeman in the scene said policemen responding from the shooting pursued the attacker, but he managed to escape. Police were investigating the twin murders.

On Saturday, an airport employee Jeric Flores, an employee of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, was also shot dead at the residential BAT Compound in Governor Camins Avenue near the Zamboanga City Airport.

Flores just arrived home when he was attacked. Forensic investigators recovered at least 5 cartridges fired from a .45-caliber pistol. Police are investigating the motive of the murder and who was behind it.

The killing coincided with the visit of President Rodrigo Duterte at the air force base at the airport where he inspected soldiers.

Gun attacks are not uncommon in Zamboanga City where hired killers are actively operating. (Mindanao Examiner)
