Dialysis patient gets Covid-19 in hospital

ZAMBOANGA CITY - A 58-year old local woman undergoing haemodialysis at the Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) contracted the deadly coronavirus respiratory disease.

This illustration, created by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), shows the virus' spiky, crown-like fringe that shrouds each viral particle—giving it a “coronated” appearance.
The woman, a resident of Barangay Tetuan, was admitted at the ZCMC due to fever and cough and underwent Covid-19 testing. The result of her test came out positive for Covid-19 and she was immediately placed under isolation at the hospital.
Her family is also being monitored by health authorities for Covid-19 symptoms.
But weeks before she was diagnosed with Covid-19, the woman - ZC258 - feared that she may get the disease at the hospital. She claimed that her ward is just near where the Covid-19 patients were staying.
“Plywood lang el de amon division na maga paciente que tiene Covid-19,” she told the Zamboanga Post in June.
The woman has been undergoing haemodialysis every other day for the past months now with Barangay Tetuan workers bringing her to the hospital in their vehicle after the local government imposed strict community quarantine measures to prevent the spread of the disease.
Weeks before she was diagnosed with Covid-19, the woman sought the help of a quack doctor to relieve her of body pains.
The whole compound where the woman lives has been placed under a 21-day lockdown since July 9 and trapping 5 families who had no direct physical contact with ZC258. And three members of a family neighbor, who work at private firms, had to find a place to stay for the duration of the lockdown.
Families trapped in the area have criticized the City Health Office for locking down the whole place instead of the compound where ZC258 lives. Two business establishments – a salon and an air condition repair shop – were also affected by the lockdown that resulted in the loss of jobs of about a dozen workers. (Zamboanga Post)
