Zambo LGU aids poor family in despair

THE ZAMBOANGA City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), upon order of Mayor Beng Climaco, provided food aid to a poor family after the father diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease suffered a stroke.

Two of the man’s children are also with disabilities, according to CSWDO, adding, the family lives in a small dilapidated house in Barangay Ayala.

“The food assistance forms part of the initial services extended to the family to cope with difficulties amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Financial assistance is also being processed while the children are set to be included in the City Government’s cash incentive for persons with disabilities.”

“The parents will also be enrolled in a pro-poor program of Mayor Beng for senior citizens so they can avail of the regular cash incentive for the elderly,” CSWDO said.

In April this year when Zamboanga was in a strict community quarantine measure to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease, Climaco rolled out a program that benefited patients with chronic diseases by providing them with free transport services to help them in their medical needs.

The local government tapped the ALTS-Coop taxi cabs for the free transport services for patients on chemotherapy, regular dialysis and physical rehabilitation from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Included in the program were patients on chemotherapy, regular dialysis and physical rehabilitation. This is also the first time in Zamboanga that the local government provided free transport services to medical patients, especially for those who rely on public transport or those who do not have vehicles at a time Zamboanga is under the enhanced community quarantine.

Health is one of Climaco’s three priorities with security and education (Because S.H.E. Cares) as her concrete foundation to better serve the people of Zamboanga. Aside from free medical transport services, Climaco’s Largo Vida (Long Life) program also benefits the poor and the elderly by providing the medicines, among others.

It is only during Climaco’s time that senior citizens in different barangays are receiving the much needed attention and care.

Largo Vida is part of Climaco’s benevolent programs dedicated to the welfare or well-being of senior citizens. It is being implemented by the City Health Office, City Social Welfare and Development Office and Office of the City Mayor.

And aside from Largo Vida program, the local government also provides cash incentives to senior citizens celebrating their birthday as provided in a local ordinance. Considered also as the first of its kind in the history of Zamboanga, the distribution of the cash gifts covers all the 98 barangays here. (Zamboanga Post)
