PRESIDENT RODRIGO Duterte has threatened former Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario after he alleged that China meddled in the 2016 elections that catapulted the former Davao City into the presidency.

Del Rosario, citing a highly trustworthy source, said ranking Chinese officials have bragged about Beijing’s role in the Duterte presidency.
“On February 22, 2019, we received
information from a most reliable international entity that high officials from
China are bragging that they had been able to influence the 2016 Philippine
elections so that Duterte would be president. We believe that our Beijing post
can easily validate this. Moreover, subsequent actions of the President lend
more credence to this information,” he said.
This was also reported by GMA News,
which quoted Del Rosario as saying: “As
early as May 15, 2018, our President proudly declared in Casiguran Bay in
Aurora that Chinese President Xi Jinping has sworn to protect him from moves
that will result in his removal from office.”
Del Rosario said Duterte even
professed his undying love for the Chinese President (Xi Jinping). He was
referring to Duterte’s statement in April 2018 during a news conference in
Davao before leaving for China to attend the Boao Forum for Asia where the
President said: “I just simply love Xi Jinping. He understood, he
understands my problem and he is willing to help.”
“It is certainly disturbing to see our
President, who should be looking after his own people, relying on a foreign
leader for his security of tenure as President. Moreover, such foreign leader
represents an aggressor that is openly and illegally occupying land and waters
that belong to the Filipino people,” Del Rosario said, calling Duterte's
administration a “failure of leadership.”
GMA News reported that since 2016, Del
Rosario lamented that the country’s fight for the West Philippine Sea “has lost
momentum as Duterte decided to set aside the Award in favor of Beijing’s
promise of economic benefits.”
It said Del Rosario criticized
Duterte’s appeasement policy that appears to yield too much to China, saying
such action is a betrayal of the Constitution, which mandates him to
secure the sovereignty of the State and the integrity of the national
territory. “With less than a year left until the end of President Duterte’s
term in June 2022, his record of asserting the rights of Filipinos in the West
Philippine Sea has been abysmal,” the television network quoted Del Rosario as
saying.
“As President Duterte himself admitted
in his State of the Nation Address in 2020 regarding the Chinese presence in
the West Philippine Sea: “Talagang inutil ako dyan, walang magawa.”
Del Rosario said: “My fellow countrymen,
this admission speak volumes. Is it not about time for Filipinos to reject this
man and what he represents?”
Gago Ka!
Duterte strongly denied the allegations
and boasted that 16 million people had voted for him. “You know, we are still investigating it. But you
know, ikaw Albert --- Alberto, 'pag nasilip ko lang mayroon ka, I will charge
you for sa... Marami akong idedemanda sa'yo. Ako na... I'm not --- I have not,
for the life of me, sued anybody libel or anything during my 23 years, four
years as congressman tapos vice mayor hanggang Presidente. Pero ikaw ang
hahabulin ko kasi ikaw ang nag-transmit sa message.”
“You are in olden times, kung at war
lang tayo sana, you are guilty of treason. Kaya nga pala kasi hindi ka
Pilipino. Kung saan ka napulot, bakit ang hitsura mo? Hindi ka talaga Pilipino
sa totoo lang. At you know, ang mabigat sa iyo, ikaw 'yung nag-transmit and, I
said, that is treason. Daldal ka nang daldal diyan. Anong China-China magtulong
sa akin? Gago ka, saan mo nakuha 'yan? Sixteen --- 16 million makuha mo ng
tulong sa ibang bayan? Sixteen million mabili mo? Ang aking majority is six
million over. Lahat 16 million. Sixteen million plus voted. Six million of that
was my majority over your friend,” Duterte said.
The President even went further in
his verbal attacks - broadcast live on state television - on the 81-year old
statesman. “ Kaya ikaw pag... Tingnan mo 'yung mukha mo. Hindi ko nga malaman
kung Pilipino ka ba o... Are you a Filipino? Nagdududa ako. I want to see you
personally”
“Where can I meet you? Saan ka ba
nagkakape-kape? Ibuhos ko 'yang kape sa mukha mo, maniwala ka. Hindi ka
maniwala? Subukan mo. Try conveying to me the message where I can find you at
pupuntahan kita. Hindi ako magdala ng security, ako lang. Ibuhos ko 'yang kape
sa mukha mo. Nasaan ka ba ngayon kasi gusto kitang puntahan? Saan ba bahay mo?
Katukin kita. Ako lang mag-isa, huwag kang matakot. Hindi ako sanay. You know,
I was born alone in this world so I will leave alone,” Duterte said. (Mindanao
