THE DEPARTMENT of Tourism said it is investigating a hotel for failing to follow public health protocols after it allowed a Filipino guest under quarantine to leave the hotel and attend a party without completing the required quarantine period.
DOT Secretary Bernadette Puyat |
Tourism Secretary Bernadette Puyat did not identify the hotel, but said the Department of Tourism has already served a notice to the hotel to explain its failure to follow quarantine protocols.
The unnamed Filipino arrived from the United States and
was billeted at the hotel, but skip the mandatory quarantine protocols to attend a
private party in Makati City.
Puyat said individuals found violating quarantine
protocols may face penalties and imprisonment. She gave no other details about the Filipino.
“Failure to comply with the health and safety protocols
of the DOT, the Department of Health, or the Inter-Agency Task Force for the
Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, may lead to criminal penalties of
fines and or imprisonment, and administrative penalties such as suspension or
revocation of accreditation depending on the gravity of the offense,” she
said. (Joyce Ann Rocamora)
