THE LOCAL government has formally turned over the newly completed Sanitary Landfill Phase II and transfer station (Cell 2) to barangay officials in Salaan.
Mayor Beng Climaco said the project is part of the local government's efforts towards sanitation, cleanliness, and solid waste management. She said the local government will establish more transfer stations and additional materials recovery facilities to address the city’s huge garbage collection.
She reminded residents again to separate their garbage into biodegradable materials and non-biodegradable waste and throw them to trash bins or put outside their house so it can be collected at a designated time. She also asked residents not to litter or throw their garbage anywhere on the streets, rivers or sea and help the local government in maintaining cleanliness.
In her speech at the maiden session of the City Council following her election victory, Climaco said she will push for a more sustainable and efficient cleanliness campaign and enforce strict solid waste segregation program.
“El proteccion del diatun media ambiente ta esta importante y ay hace todo lo que debe el govierno local para realiza con este. El limpiesa del Ciudad responsibilidad de todo, poreso necesita kita tiene el personal responsibilidad voluntariamente buta y recuhi el maga basura na propio lugar. Si verdad kita ta ama con el Ciudad, desea limpiesa na pensamiento, na diatun palabra, y acciones positivo para el Ciudad,” she said.
The local government purchased 96 trucks to help augment or provide garbage trucks to the different barangays and enable officials to effectively maintain cleanliness in their respective areas. She said the local government also appropriated some P250,000 for each barangay for the trucks' maintenance and fuel expenses.
Climaco thanked the City Council members and all those who supported the purchase of the trucks. Eight of these trucks, she said, will be for the use of the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources which is in-charge of collecting garbage in the central business.
Barangay officials expressed their appreciation to Climaco’s efforts in providing garbage trucks. And Netizens who follow Climaco’s Facebook account also praised the mayor for her hard work and dedication in making Zamboanga a better place to live in. (Zamboanga Post)
