A SEÑOR citizen became the latest fatality from coronavirus disease (Covid-19) here, bringing the death toll to 18.
Based on the report of the Olongapo Covid-19 Task Force as of Wednesday night, the 18th fatality was a 69-year-old woman from Barangay Pag-asa.
The task force said the patient died Sept. 23 in a private hospital, the same day her positive swab test result came out.
Aside from the fatality, there were 11 new infections cases reported, raising the total number of cases to 449, with 211 on active status.
The task force said the new Covid-19 cases include a 22-year-old female health worker in a private hospital, who had close contact with another positive patient.
“She experienced colds last Sept. 16 and has been admitted in isolation at the private hospital where she is working. She underwent RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) on Sept. 22 which turned out positive,” Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr. said in a statement.
On the other hand, two patients have recovered from the disease, bringing the total number of recoveries to 220.
Paulino reminded the residents to strictly observe the health protocols to prevent further spread of the dreaded disease.
‘Your local government is hard at work to preserve the general welfare and protect public health. We expect everyone’s cooperation by complying with the rules and measures set by the city and barangay authorities. We can beat this disease by our united stand,” the mayor said. (By Zorayda Tecson)
