Security forces capture hired killer

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Security forces captured a suspected gun for hire in an operation over the weekend following a failed assassination attempt on the life of a policeman in Lamitan City in the restive province of Basilan.

Police confirmed the arrest of Said Anjalin who was tagged as behind the gun attack on Patrolman Faisal Alih in his house on Friday evening, April 14, in the village of Matatag. Anjalin shot the policeman, but missed. The gunman fled on a motorcycle after Alih returned fire.

Anjalin was eventually tracked down and captured by policemen and soldiers in a house reportedly owned by Walid Abyarol in the neighboring village of Malinis. Security forces also recovered Anjalin’s .45-caliber pistol and his motorcycle.

Police did not say the motive of the failed murder, saying Anjalin is still being investigated. It was not immediately known whether Anjalin was also involved in the spate of killings in the province, where gun attacks are not uncommon due to the presence of hired killers and rebel groups.
