COTABATO CITY - To fully execute its role as the policy-making, coordinating, and monitoring body for women, gender, and development in the Bangsamoro region, the Bangsamoro Women Commission has proposed a 10.70% increase in its budget for the fiscal year 2024.
The proposed budget, amounting to
P89.5 million, is allocated for various key areas integral to the commission's
operations, including policy development and capacity building, monitoring and
evaluation, coordination and public engagement, women, peace and security,
women’s economic participation, and political empowerment.
Chaired by Bainon Karon, the
Commission presented its budget proposal to Subcommittee G of the Finance,
Budget, and Management Committee during Monday’s budget hearing on November 20.
Subcommittee Chair Atty. Raissa
Jajurie said that the committee members will further discuss the proposed
budget for BWC.
BWC, as outlined in its mandate, is
responsible for empowering women and their families by promoting and protecting
their socio-economic and political rights.
Eliminating all forms of
discrimination against women, ensuring that legal measures are taken to promote
gender justice, women’s rights, and welfare, and promoting gender and
