3 Sayyafs captured in Zamboanga City
ZAMBOANGA CITY – Philippine authorities captured 3 pro-ISIS militants following separate operations in the southern port city of Zamboanga, police said Friday.
Police said two of the militants were involved in the June 2001 kidnappings and brutal slayings of over a dozen coconut farmers in the town of Lantawan in Basilan province, just several nautical miles south of here.
The duo - Jamil Ibrahim and Majuk Amil – were tracked down at their hideouts the coastal village of Arena Blanco, according to Brigadier General Froilan Quidilla, the regional police chief.
He said the third militant, Yong Aming, was also arrested in a follow-up operation in the same village. All suspects are facing a string of criminal charges.
The operations, Quidilla said, were launched by the National Bureau of Investigation, the Naval Intelligence Security Group and the Philippine National Police after a long period of surveillance on the trio.
He did not say if security forces seized weapons from the three men or if they were plotting to launch terror attacks here.
“The three ASG members are now under the custody of Regional Intelligence Division 9 through the request and coordination made by CTD-NBI contingents for proper documentation and disposition,” he said and praising the capture of the militants and lauded efforts of the security forces that led to the capture of the suspects.
