Duterte, magre-resign!
NAGBANTA ANG PANGULONG Duterte na magbibitiw sa puwesto kung itutuloy ng anak nitong si Congressman-elect Paolo ‘Pulong’ Duterte na tumakbo bilang House Speaker.
Nakarating sa Pangulo ang balitang may naguudyok sa kanyang anak na puntiryahin ang posisyon ng pagiging Speaker of the House of Representatives kung kaya’t agad itong nababala kay Paolo.
“Itong si Paolo, sabihin ko sa kanya, if you run for speakership let me know. Kasi kung tatakbo ka, magre-resign ako kasi marami na tayo, nandiyan yun kapatid mong mayor (Sara Duterte) tapos ah, what if someone is also uneasy about it.”
“I believe in democratic practice…but then again the Vice Mayor(-elect) (Sebastian) anak ko yun; and Pulong as Speaker, ako ang Presidente eh hindi na maganda yun, so if you will insist…that’s your own life to live. If you insist on running, maniwala ka sa mga advisers mo, go ahead let me know three days in advance before you make the announcement and I will tender my resignation,” ani Duterte.
Itinanggi naman ni Paolo na may balak itong maging House Speaker at sa kanyang Facebook page ay ito ang kanyang isinulat: Puede ba tubag ani?: PULONG TO PRESIDENT DUTERTE: I DID NOT SAY I WANT TO BE SPEAKER....may nagkamali na naman bulong sa tenga mo Mr. President.”
Noon ay pinalagan rin umano ni Duterte ang suhestiyon na pagtakbo ni Paolo bilang mayor sa Davao at ang nakakatandang kapatid nito na si Sara ang siyang kumandidato at nagwagi.
Si Sara ay nagsilbing vice mayor ni Duterte noong 2007 hanggang 2010 at mayor hanggang sa kasalukuyan. May ambisyon rin diumano si Sara na maging Pangulo sa pagtatapos ng termino ng kanyang ama. (Mindanao Examiner)

Food terminal for farmers opens in Davao
DAVAO CITY – Mayor Sara Duterte has recently opened the P70-million Davao Food Terminal Complex in Toril to serve farmers and provide them access to market.
"Given how this food terminal can ensure that farmer’s products can be directly sold to the consumers without the intervention of middlemen, the project shall be of mutual benefit for the farmers and the customers in Davao City,” Duterte said.
She said the food terminal for will benefit fruit and vegetable farmers, adding, the complex is the local government’s response to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture.
The mayor said the food terminal also seeks to boost food security and defeat hunger amid the changing climate and increasing food demand across the globe.
The construction of the food terminal at the old Daratex property was conceptualized in 2014 as a partnership between the City Government and the Department of Agriculture in Region which funded the project. According to DA Regional Director Ricardo Oñate Jr., the project is part of three primary support for farmers to become productive and have sustainable sources of income: technology, financing, and marketing.
He said the food terminal also ensures that farmers like those from far-flung villages of Toril in Baguio district, Marilog, Paquibato, and Malabog will not have a hard time selling their goods because they can directly deliver their products to the food terminal. Under the partnership, the local government will oversee the operations of the food terminal until the formation of farmers’ cooperative and association that will eventually manage it.
Duterte said she looks forward to more similar partnerships, especially those that "will elevate our local agricultural industry and empower our agricultural players, especially our small-scale farmers, to be at par with our global counterparts." (Lilian Mellejor, PNA)

Duterte’s senatorial bets scared to debate with Otso Diretso
DETAINED SENATOR Leila de Lima who is a staunch critic of President Rodrigo Duterte said the administration’s senator candidates cannot debate with the opposition despite repeated challenges by the Otso Diretso ticket.
She said Duterte taunts the Otso Diretso candidates and said his endorsed candidates, especially Bong Go and Francis Tolentino, are better than them.
“There is one sure way to prove or disprove Duterte's boast, a live and televised debate between his favorites Bong Go and Tolentino and anyone among the Otso Diretso candidates. The only problem is, Duterte's favored bets are content with hiding under Duterte's skirt, too afraid to engage in any kind of debate with their opponents,” she said.
De Lima said Duterte's own campaign in the 2016 elections was waged on pure gimmickry and uninhibited demagoguery, with no solid program of government on which to anchor his outlandish promises. “This kind of campaign which has won him the presidency is the culprit for the directionless and chaotic governance of the country three years into his administration.”
“And Duterte has the gall to tell Otso Diretso to go straight to hell. Well, the country is in hell right now, courtesy of Duterte's unfulfilled promises made during his hot-air campaign for the presidency and his unstable behavior. He is using the same tricks now with his candidates, hoping to fool Filipino voters twice in a row,” she said.
De Lima was referring to a speech Duterte made during a recent campaign rally in Zamboanga City where he endorsed two opposing politicians Mayor Beng Climaco and Rep. Celso Lobregat.
“Shame on us if we let him fool us twice. By now, we clearly know that there are no short-cuts to good government. There are no magic portals to crime-free communities in six months. There are no crazy formulas to solving poverty or ending corruption. Only demagogues lead us to believe in such things to make up for the bankruptcy of their own visions and programs.”
“Duterte's promises are the same cheap promises being made by his senatorial candidates. Like empty shells when broken, they have nothing to show on how to fulfill these promises. This is the simple reason why Duterte's candidates will never engage the Otso Diretso in any debate,” De Lima said. (Mindanao Examiner)

HNP officer clarifies endorsement of local candidates
DAVAO CITY – Unless "explicitly stated," candidates in the 2019 midterms election may not assume they have been endorsed by Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), a regional party co-founded by Mayor Sara Z. Duterte.

This was the advice given by HNP-Davao political officer Jeffrey Tupas, amid a flurry of claims by candidates that they have already secured HNP's endorsement through Mayor Sara. One such claim was made by Zamboanga City 1st district Rep. Celso Lobregat, of the Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino-Lakas ng Bansa (PDP-Laban).
According to Lobregat, the endorsement was made during a “luncheon meeting by invitation” on November 9 in a restaurant in Quezon City. The lawmaker said several senatorial candidates and other HNP officials were present during the event.
A news item about the purported article was even published on a local paper in Zamboanga City, in which Lobregat was quoted expressing his gratitude to Sara for the supposed endorsement. The news item even had an accompanying photo with Sara raising the hand of Lobregat.
But Tupas said he can't recall that Sara endorsed Lobregat, and that the lawmaker may have made too much out of the photo opportunity. “I don’t know how a photo can be misconstrued as an endorsement. I believe until it was and explicitly stated that HNP or Mayor Sara has endorsed a candidate can we really say an endorsement has been made,” said Tupas, who is also City Hall's chief information officer.
Sara is not a member of any national political party, including the PDP-Laban, of which President Rodrigo Duterte is the national chairman.
Even Lobregat's main opponent, incumbent Zamboanga Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar, of the Liberal Party, made light of Lobregat's supposed endorsement from HNP. “It seems that the congressman has endorsed Mayor Sara Duterte. Letters from Davao: The die is cast in Davao region By Jun Ledesma
CERTIFICATES OF CANDIDACY for various positions had been filed by the time this piece hit the press and social media. But of course the battle lines had been drawn and the imponderables in Philippine political and election jamboree starts. Like we see alliances broken because after all what is supreme among political animals is their survival.
But there are interesting scenarios worth watching. Hatched in Davao region is Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HnP) a party that was the brainchild of the Presidential daughter, Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio. HnP is an assembly of political leaders in Region 11 that is composed of Davao provinces and cities and Compostela Valley Province. The basic objective is to consolidate the bargaining power of the leaders in Congress and harmonize development plans so as to disperse industries region-wide.
HnP was a rainbow coalition made up of Liberal Party, Nacionalista Party, PDP and PDP-Laban including regional parties among them Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod and Kusog Baryohanon. Mayor Inday Sara was the group’s lead convenor and the membership includes political heavy weights among them Gov. del Rosario of Davao del Norte, Gov. Dayanghirang of Davao Oriental, Gov. Bautista of Davao Occidental, Gov. Uy of Comval, Congressman Tonyboy Floirendo and hundreds of Mayors and Barangay Captains in the Region.
Things evolved into a political machinery when then Speaker Bebot Alvarez dubbed HnP as an opposition and that its organization was without the permission from Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. This was later compounded when Alvarez ordered the dismantling of quarantine stations in the banana plantations of the Floirendos. At that time the dreaded Fusarium wilt that wiped out banana fields in Panama was monitored in the Davao Cavendish plantations. Banana export, for those who are not aware, is the prime driver of economy in the region and the industry, to my mind, is the biggest employer in the country. It is also the major dollar-earner in the region.All these accounts for the unprecedented economic growth rate that is anywhere in the vicinity of 12%.
The spat between Alvarez and Inday Sara did not go unnoticed. Quietly but perceptively influential political leaders all over the country could be seen visiting Davao to touch base with HnP. I saw this happening as the beginning of the rise and alliances of regional parties in the country. The demonstration of power and influence of this alliance was seen later in the blitzkrieg strategy that jettisoned Alvarez as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Well Alvarez maybe down but definitely he is far from being out. He is seeking re-election and had been consolidating forces. He has seen a little crack at HnP and he convinced ex-Tagum Mayor Chong Uy (CO) to run with him for Vice Governor under PDP banner. CO had long wanted to run for VG under the HnP banner but words had it that he is not getting any answer. My eye in both HnP camps however confided that the Del Rosario camp have not actually arrived at any thing concrete (as of last Saturday). But things had shaped up . It’s Rodney del Rosario for Governor, Anthony del Rosario for Representative of the 1st District and Joey Millan for Vice Governor. Former Gov. Rodolfo del Rosario will be the General Campaign Manager. Also completed are the slates in the 2nd District where Rep. Tonyboy Floirendo and nominees for members of the Provincial Board had filed their CoCs. Except for District 2, it will be battle royale in Davao del Norte and its worth watching.
In Davao Oriental, Rep. Cora Malanyaon confirmed she and that Gov. Nelson Dayanghirang will seek reelection. When I called her the other night, Cora was already asleep.
Elections in Davao City is as placid as its prevailing peace. Mayor Inday Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio, come-backing congressmen Vincent Garcia of the 2nd District and Sid Ungab in the 3rd and Polong Duterte in the 1st District are all running unopposed. It’s only the Vice Mayoral Post that remains vacant. A little bird whispered to me that Inday’s best choice is former Vice Mayor Louie Bonguyan who is presently a member of the Board of the Development Bank of the Philippines. The position is his in a silver platter.
By the looks of it all, the HnP will have a grand celebration when the votes are counted in May. The die is cast. It looks like it will be literally a walk in the park for the HnPs and my hunch is that they will focus on the election of SAP Bong Go and. Gen. Bato dela Rosa instead. I do not think there will be any significant changes ahead but I have an advice to some wannabees who have very slim chance of winning to just keep your money for the Christmas Holidays. Things evolved into a political machinery when then Speaker Bebot Alvarez dubbed HnP as an opposition and that its organization was without the permission from Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. This was later compounded when Alvarez ordered the dismantling of quarantine stations in the banana plantations of the Floirendos. At that time the dreaded Fusarium wilt that wiped out banana fields in Panama was monitored in the Davao Cavendish plantations. Banana export, for those who are not aware, is the prime driver of economy in the region and the industry, to my mind, is the biggest employer in the country. It is also the major dollar-earner in the region.All these accounts for the unprecedented economic growth rate that is anywhere in the vicinity of 12%.
The spat between Alvarez and Inday Sara did not go unnoticed. Quietly but perceptively influential political leaders all over the country could be seen visiting Davao to touch base with HnP. I saw this happening as the beginning of the rise and alliances of regional parties in the country. The demonstration of power and influence of this alliance was seen later in the blitzkrieg strategy that jettisoned Alvarez as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Well Alvarez maybe down but definitely he is far from being out. He is seeking re-election and had been consolidating forces. He has seen a little crack at HnP and he convinced ex-Tagum Mayor Chong Uy (CO) to run with him for Vice Governor under PDP banner. CO had long wanted to run for VG under the HnP banner but words had it that he is not getting any answer. My eye in both HnP camps however confided that the Del Rosario camp have not actually arrived at any thing concrete (as of last Saturday). But things had shaped up . It’s Rodney del Rosario for Governor, Anthony del Rosario for Representative of the 1st District and Joey Millan for Vice Governor. Former Gov. Rodolfo del Rosario will be the General Campaign Manager. Also completed are the slates in the 2nd District where Rep. Tonyboy Floirendo and nominees for members of the Provincial Board had filed their CoCs. Except for District 2, it will be battle royale in Davao del Norte and its worth watching.
In Davao Oriental, Rep. Cora Malanyaon confirmed she and that Gov. Nelson Dayanghirang will seek reelection. When I called her the other night, Cora was already asleep.
Elections in Davao City is as placid as its prevailing peace. Mayor Inday Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio, come-backing congressmen Vincent Garcia of the 2nd District and Sid Ungab in the 3rd and Polong Duterte in the 1st District are all running unopposed. It’s only the Vice Mayoral Post that remains vacant. A little bird whispered to me that Inday’s best choice is former Vice Mayor Louie Bonguyan who is presently a member of the Board of the Development Bank of the Philippines. The position is his in a silver platter.
By the looks of it all, the HnP will have a grand celebration when the votes are counted in May. The die is cast. It looks like it will be literally a walk in the park for the HnPs and my hunch is that they will focus on the election of SAP Bong Go and. Gen. Bato dela Rosa instead. I do not think there will be any significant changes ahead but I have an advice to some wannabees who have very slim chance of winning to just keep your money for the Christmas Holidays.
