MAYOR BENG Climaco appealed to City Hall employees to remain calm and continue their work following several cases of Covid-19 among workers who were quickly isolated and undergoing quarantine.
Climaco ordered the immediate disinfection of the entire City Hall - after some employees had been tested positive for the coronavirus - to ensure the health and safety of civil workers.
“I share the burden with all of you. But City Hall must remain open because we are in the heart of local government, and the people of Zamboanga City need you and depend on you,” Climaco stressed in a video message posted on her Facebook page.
“Our services cannot stop and so I call on you as government workers and as public servants to remain calm and continue performing our work. I ask this of you and believe me I know what a great sacrifice it is, but this is our sworn duty as part of our “juramiento” during flag raising ceremonies every Monday,” she added.
Climaco repeatedly and humbly pleaded to employees, saying, “Zamboanga City needs you. I need you. I need you all to hold your ground and together let us help fight this battle with the grace of God.”
She assured employees and the public that the local government is doing its best to ensure the safety of everyone at City Hall. “I understand that you are anxious and fearful. I understand that you fear for your family, for yourselves, friends and co-workers in government,” she said.
Climaco also directed all department heads to limit contact in workplaces to protect the employees and those transacting business at City Hall. “We must adopt technologies to help contactless operations as much as possible. Let us be flexible and maximize technology available to us,” she said.
She also urged the public to exercise extreme caution and personal responsibility to keep themselves safe from Covid-19 infection. “Wear face mask at all times, even when inside offices, maintain physical distancing and limit movement in and out of City Hall,” she said.
Climaco thanked all those who wished well and praised local government employees for their dedication and hard work after City Hall resumed its operations following a massive three-day disinfection.
To ensure the continuity of public service even during these challenging times, Climaco said City Hall now has a skeleton workforce, and that a work from home arrangement has been made for some employees. (Zamboanga Post)
