ARMM gubernatorial bet Sakur Tan vows for clean, honest elections

ARMM gubernatorial candidate Dr Sakur Tan (DHum)

SULU – Philanthropist Sulu Vice Governor Sakur Tan - who is running for governor in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao - has on Saturday vowed to support the poll body’s call for clean and honest elections despite black propaganda and smear campaign launched by his political foes who fear imminent defeat in the May elections.
Tan, an influential politician and member of President Aquino’s Liberal Party, has also appealed to his supporters and followers in the ARMM to campaign based on his platform of honest and transparent governance, and genuine reform.
“We have always been supporting (the Commission on Elections) and advocating free, honest and peaceful elections not only in Sulu, but elsewhere in the Muslim autonomous region. In fact, Sulu was among the provinces in the country that has had peaceful elections in the past,” he said.
Tan said his multitude of supporters and leaders in Basilan, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao, and Lanao del Sur have committed to peacefully campaign based on his platform of clean governance and integrity.
“This elections isn’t about me anymore, this is about the future of our people, our children and our region. Genuine reform is really needed to bring even the basic services to the people, equality and transparency. We cannot allow a one-man rule in the ARMM because this is supposed to be a democratic government where we need to listen to all the sectors in society,” he said.
Tan, whose legacy in Sulu included many projects on infrastructure, peace and development projects, is being supported by political leaders in the ARMM and various groups, civil society and nongovernmental organizations, the religious and business sectors and the youth. (Mindanao Examiner)
