Army militia wounded in Maguindanao bomb blast
COTABATO CITY - One pro-government militia was wounded after an improvised explosive went off in Guindulungan town in the restive province of Maguindanao, the army said Wednesday.
The 6th Infantry Division said the blast occurred in the village called Macasampen while the militia was patrolling. The victim, who is working for the 38th Infantry Battalion, was rushed to hospital.
It said the explosive was planted near the highway where troops regularly pass.
“The explosion was meant to inflict harm to our troops just in time they were passing to conduct their regular security in the area,” said Maj. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana.
Sobejana did not who was behind the attack or whether communist rebels or pro-ISIS militants were responsible in the blast.
Maguindanao is the most dangerous among 5 provinces under the Muslim autonomous region due to the presence of various rebel groups and terrorists.
President Rodrigo Duterte was recently in Maguindanao’s Buluan town where the distributed land titles to 780 farmers. Security was tight during the event and vowed to give away more government lands to the poor. (Mindanao Examiner)

Ambushed soldiers alive, says Philippine Army
COTABATO CITY – The Philippine Army said 2 soldiers who were ambushed in the southern Cotabato City survived the attack, although seriously wounded.
The 6th Infantry Division said the duo Private First Class Nerwin Delfin and Michael Haudar, who are members of the 37th Infantry Battalion, were attacked Friday while travelling on a motorcycle along Sinsuat Avenue. Delfin is in critical condition and other reports said he died in the hospital.

Their unit is deployed in Maguindanao province. Witnesses said motorcycle gunmen attacked the duo without warning. The ambush occurred despite an extended martial law in the troubled region. But gun attacks here are not uncommon.
Photos of the soldiers slumped on the road were circulated on Facebook. The clarification of the army came out late and after media reports, quoting various sources, claimed the two soldiers were slain in the attack.
It was unknown if the killings were perpetrated by rebels or pro-ISIS militants fighting for a separate state in Mindanao where President Rodrigo Duterte imposed martial law since last year following a deadly siege by militants in Marawi City.
The murders occurred ahead of the referendum next month of the controversial Bangsamoro Organic Law which. If ratified, it would replace the current Muslim autonomous region and would be ruled by the rebel group Moro Islamic Liberation Front which signed an interim peace deal with Manila in 2014. 2 soldiers gunned down in Cotabato City
COTABATO CITY – Two army soldiers were gunned down Friday morning in Cotabato City in southern Philippines despite an extended martial law in the troubled region.
The duo – both in civilian clothes - was travelling on a motorcycle when gunmen ambushed them along Sinsuat Avenue at around 9 in the morning.
The soldiers were instantly killed in the attack. The 6th Infantry Division did not release any report on the twin murders, but gun attacks here are not uncommon.

Troops foil terror attacks, capture 4 militants in Maguindanao
COTABATO CITY – Four pro-ISIS militants have been captured by Filipino security forces in the troubled southern province of Maguindanao, officials announced Thursday.
Officials said one of those captured was a commander, Datu Parido Balabagan, whose group is allegedly planning to carry out terror attacks in Sultan Kudarat’s Lambayong town.
Security forces also seized from the militants two M14 rifles, two anti-tank rocket launchers and three fragmentation grenades.
The operation - which was launched before sunrise Wednesday at a militant hideout in the village called Lumabao in General SK Pendatun town - was the result of an intensified campaign against terrorism and vital intelligence passed on by civilians.
The militants, all members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters, were handed over to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and are currently under interrogation. Details of the interrogation were not made public by authorities and there was no immediate statement from the militant group on the arrest of its commander and fighters.
The BIFF is one of about a dozen militant groups that embraced the influence of ISIS and are not fighting for a caliphate in the restive, but mineral-rich region. (Mindanao Examiner)
