NGCP shuts down Zambo pylon after man climbs tower to kill self
Firemen and police negotiators, including family members and girlfriend of the 21-year Joemarie Eugenio persuaded him to come down after hours of negotiations on Monday.
Eugenio was eventually rescued by members of the Special Rescue Unit of the Bureau of Fire Protection in the village of Guisao. It took several minutes before rescuers carefully brought down the man before he passed out and rushed to hospital.
The man’s girlfriend told police that Eugenio wanted to marry her, but she was not ready to settle down and this pushed Eugenio, who works as a fruit vendor, to threaten to kill himself.
The shutting down of the electric pylon caused 4 hours of outage in Zamboanga. (The Zamboanga Post)
