Police probe fake news propagator

CEBU CITY – Police are investigating a Facebook user who allegedly claimed in his post that some hotels in Cebu have quarantined Korean nationals due to the Wuhan coronavirus after arriving from Daegu City in North Gyeongsang province of South Korea.

Philippines imposes travel ban on South Korea

THE BUREAU of Immigration is set to impose a temporary ban on South Korea where at least a dozen people had died from the Wuhan coronavirus and nearly 2,000 more infected with the deadly disease.

Gilead’s Remdesivir Begins Trials as Researchers Publish Positive In Vitro Results

CLINICAL TRIALS of Gilead Sciences’ remdesivir have begun in Wuhan, China, the center of the novel coronavirus outbreak, a day after Chinese researchers recommended that the antiviral drug candidate remdesivir be assessed in humans as a potential treatment for 2019-nCoV.

China’s National Medical Products Administration has approved applications by the China-Japan Friendship Hospital and the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences to conduct trials evaluating remdesivir. 


More face masks in market assured

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY - The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Northern Mindanao said it is taking measures to address the shortage of face masks, especially  N95 and N88, following the outbreak of the deadly Wuhan coronavirus in China which has infected tens of thousands of people around the world, including the Philippines.

DTI said prices of face masks have also increased due to the dwindling supplies and huge demand in the country. Private and online sellers jacked the prices of N95 and N88 and even surgical masks by as much as 500%. 


Taiwan appeals travel ban

‘Is China behind Manila’s move?’

THE PHILIPPINE Airlines (PAL), Cebu Pacific (CEB), and AirAsia Philippines have cancelled all flights to and from Taiwan after Manila imposed a temporary ban due to outbreak of the Wuhan coronavirus.

Manila first issued a travel ban February 2 on all tourists from China and its Special Administrative Regions - Hong Kong and Macao –to prevent the spread of the disease, and included Taiwan a week later.

Don’t ban Chinese tourists: Consul Jia Li

CEBU CITY – The Chinese Consulate General in Cebu has appealed to local governments not to ban Chinese tourists following the outbreak of the Wuhan coronavirus.

Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella previously said that he is ready to impose a ban on Chinese tourists after a five-year Wuhan boy who arrived here and was quarantined in a local hospital, but later on found negative for the coronavirus.
